That re-install DVD worked like a charm when I inserted it in the new External Disk Drive. He walked through re-installing the applications, using the re-install DVD that came with the iMac. VOBs lead me to iPhoto where I am told the files are unreadable. The VIDEO_TS leads me to a large number of. However, when I click onto the Disk, I get a rectangle with folders AUDIO_TS and VIDEO_TS. The Mac recognizes the new drive, and when I insert a DVD into it, the Disk with its title appears on my desktop. I am testing out a brand-new External Optical drive ASUS SDRW-08D2S-U for use with my Mac OS X 10.6.8.
